Meet The Team
The senior management team has invested and operated real estate through various market cycles and implements a hands-on, collaborative effort to seamlessly execute on its investment strategies and adapt its business to ever-changing market conditions.
Martin Nussbaum is a co-founding principal of Slate Property Group. Martin has over 20 years of real estate investment, development and operational experience throughout the United States. He oversees the strategic vision behind the company’s multiple business platforms, investment decisions, capital market relationships and execution of its portfolio. Throughout his career, he has acquired over $8 billion worth of real estate in all asset classes. Prior to Slate, Martin was the co-founder and managing partner of Silverstone Property Group, a full-service real estate owner and operator that purchased over $1 billion of New York real estate assets. Prior to Silverstone, Martin worked for a family office overseeing a portfolio of over 5,000 apartments and three million square feet of commercial property throughout the New York tri-state area. He started his real estate career at Wells Hill Partners, a real estate investment bank based in New York. Martin graduated from the State University of New York Albany.
David Schwartz is a co-founder and principal of Slate Property Group. He has over seventeen years of experience buying, developing and operating real estate across the United States. He currently runs all development and construction projects for Slate Property Group and shares responsibility for all acquisitions and investment decisions. Currently Slate is developing over $4 billion in real estate throughout New York City representing over 4,000 apartments. Prior to Slate Property Group, David co-founded two New York City based development firms. He was responsible for the development of over 1,000 units throughout New York City representing over 750,000 square feet. Prior to founding his own development firms, David worked for Crescent Heights of America, where he was involved in over $500M in ground up residential developments representing over 1,000 units. Throughout David’s career he has been involved in the development of almost $5 billion in real estate. Prior to Crescent Heights of America, David worked at Lux Capital and J.P. Morgan. David received his B.S. in finance from Syracuse University.
Chief Operating Officer
Steve Krasman serves as Slate Property Group’s Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, Steve works in a multifaceted role, providing management and legal support to the company and its affiliates for their ongoing operations, strategic plans and acquisitions. With his strong legal background, Steve adds immense value to Slate’s operations and plays a critical role in all of the firm’s projects. Steve came to Slate from the real estate group of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP where he represented clients on several high-profile transactions. Earlier in his career, Steve worked at DDG Partners and Brack Capital Real Estate, where he underwrote prospective acquisitions and development projects. Prior to Brack, Steve worked at Related Capital Company structuring and managing funds comprised of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit properties. Steve received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan Business School (Ross), a Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York.
Chief Financial Officer
Shaun Klein serves as Chief Financial Officer at Slate Property Group. In this role, Shaun oversees the finance, accounting and tax functions for the entire portfolio which include reporting, cash management, forecasting, investor relations and risk management. Before joining Slate, Shaun was the Controller for Benchmark Real Estate Group, a NYC real estate owner/developer. During his time there, Shaun oversaw all accounting, tax and finance matters for the portfolio and their two real estate funds. Prior to Benchmark, Shaun was the Controller for Town Residential, a NYC residential real estate brokerage. At Town, Shaun was responsible for all the accounting and helped the firm grow from 40 brokers to over 600. Shaun earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Rider University for accounting and became a CPA (currently inactive) in the State of New Jersey.
Chief Investment Officer
Brian Vetter serves as Slate Property Group’s Chief Investment Officer. Brian oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment process, including management of the acquisition and asset management teams. Brian is also responsible for structuring business line and project-level capitalizations and contributes to the strategic development and execution of the company business strategy. Prior to joining Slate, Brian was a Managing Director of Forum Absolute Capital Partners (“FACP”), a $300 million real estate private equity fund focused on development in New York City, where he served as the firm’s chief executive and managed all aspects of its projects. Before FACP, Brian was a Vice President in the Carlyle Group’s U.S. Real Estate Funds and an investment banking analyst at Bank of America. Brian graduated from Duke University, where he was named a Benjamin N. Duke Scholar, with a Bachelor of Science degree in both Economics and Political Science.
Managing Director, Affordable
John Valladares serves as a Managing Director of Development and Affordable at Slate Property Group. John oversees Slate’s affordable, supportive, and homeless housing initiatives. He also manages many of the company’s projects involving land use actions and in particular, rezoning. John began his career at Columbia University as the Assistant Director of Campus Planning during their Manhattanville expansion. He then spent 10 years in the commercial real estate banking industry with Bank of America and TD Bank in multiple roles including Underwriter, Loan Workout Officer, and Relationship Management. John returned to development in 2015 when he joined BFC Partners and was responsible for the rezoning of the Bedford Union Armory in Crown Heights and oversaw the successful submission to NYCHA’s next Generation Ingersoll RFP. John received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and a Master of Real Estate Development from Columbia University.
Managing Director at Slate Property Group
Daniel Ridloff serves as Managing Director at Slate Property Group. In this capacity, Daniel co-heads SCALE Lending LLC, the real estate credit investment platform. His primary responsibilities for this platform include sourcing and executing new investment opportunities, specifically focused on transitional loans in the NYC metro area. Prior to joining Slate, Daniel served as Director for a NYC based real estate developer, where he oversaw all capital markets activities including the capitalization of +$1B of real estate projects. Daniel earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, School of Hotel Administration.
Managing Director Of Residential Operations And Leasing
Shari Forrest serves as Managing Director of Residential Operations and Leasing for Slate Property Group and ABODE Residential, Slate’s residential leasing subsidiary. Shari has been in the real estate industry for over 20 years, getting her start at Citi Habitats in 1999. Since then Shari has worked on both the brokerage side and for Landlord/Developers at some of the most prestigious companies in New York – including Stonehenge, Moinian, Jack Parker and Town Residential – where she cultivated her experience in all areas of leasing and resident experience before joining Slate in January 2016 to oversee the renovation project of its largest asset, Oriana at River Tower. Since that time Shari has taken over residential and leasing operations for the Slate portfolio as well as launching ABODE Residential in 2018, where she oversees the day-to-day operations of the brokerage and all aspects of leasing for Slate. Shari grew up on Long Island and graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of English.
Chief Operating Officer at SD Builders and Construction
Ryan Goddard serves as Chief Operating Officer at SD Builders and Construction. In this role he is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of SD. His education and experience have enabled him to develop a collaborative and systematic approach to the overall construction life cycle to maximize project returns and to minimize risk. Since joining SD, Ryan has led the creation and enforcement of our processes and procedures; standardizing our project management and reducing error. Ryan brings to SD, a background with extensive experience managing multiple projects, which have included theaters, retail complexes, high-end luxury condominiums, market rate rentals, and commercial buildings. Ryan holds two degrees in mechanical engineering and construction management.
Managing Director, MGT
Daniel Hochberg serves as Managing Director for MGT, Slate’s wholly owned property management arm. In his role, Daniel runs the day-to-day operations and management of MGT. Daniel has been in the Real Estate industry for approximately 20 years. He started as an assistant property manager and eventually served as Director of Property Management for Silverstone Property Group and General Manager of Middlesex Management, where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of over 10,000 apartments. Daniel is extremely knowledgeable in NYC housing laws and understands that organization and communication is the key to being an effective manager. Daniel received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Queens College in 2001. He became involved in his profession through his lifelong interest in Real Estate, and he attributes his success to his hard work and dedication. He has been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in real estate services.
