Martin Nussbaum
Principal

Martin Nussbaum is a co-founding principal of Slate Property Group. Martin has over 20 years of real estate investment, development and operational experience throughout the United States. He oversees the strategic vision behind the company’s multiple business platforms, investment decisions, capital market relationships and execution of its portfolio. Throughout his career, he has acquired over $8 billion worth of real estate in all asset classes. Prior to Slate, Martin was the co-founder and managing partner of Silverstone Property Group, a full-service real estate owner and operator that purchased over $1 billion of New York real estate assets. Prior to Silverstone, Martin worked for a family office overseeing a portfolio of over 5,000 apartments and three million square feet of commercial property throughout the New York tri-state area. He started his real estate career at Wells Hill Partners, a real estate investment bank based in New York. Martin graduated from the State University of New York Albany.

David Schwartz

David Schwartz
Principal

David Schwartz is a co-founder and principal of Slate Property Group. He has over twenty years of experience buying, developing and operating real estate across the United States. He currently runs all development and construction projects for Slate Property Group and shares responsibility for all acquisitions and investment decisions. Currently Slate is developing over $4 billion in real estate throughout New York City representing over 4,000 apartments. Prior to Slate Property Group, David co-founded two New York City based development firms. He was responsible for the development of over 1,000 units throughout New York City representing over 750,000 square feet. Prior to founding his own development firms, David worked for Crescent Heights of America, where he was involved in over $500M in ground up residential developments representing over 1,000 units. Throughout David’s career he has been involved in the development of almost $5 billion in real estate. Prior to Crescent Heights of America, David worked at Lux Capital and J.P. Morgan. David received his B.S. in finance from Syracuse University.

Jay Stark

President

Jay joined Slate in 2023 and serves as President. He oversees the firm’s investment processes, operations and provides strategic guidance and planning across all of the divisions of the integrated platform. He has over 30 years of experience structuring, acquiring, developing, and financing various real estate strategies. Jay is the founder of Deal Lake Capital, a real estate investment and advisory firm that has a focus on family offices and special situations. Prior to that, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Winter Properties, the vertically integrated real estate investment arm of Standard Industries, a multi-generational owner, operator and manager of properties in the Tri-State area, in addition to originating structured debt investments throughout the capital stack. Before Winter, he was a founding principal of Latus Partners, a real estate investment manager focusing on opportunistic and value add opportunities across the country and before that, a law partner at Solomon Weinberg LLP (now Greenberg Traurig), where he focused on the structuring and financing of complex real estate transactions. Jay graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and English, and received his JD from University of Chicago.

Steve Krasman

Chief Operating Officer

Steve joined Slate in 2013 and is a Partner and serves as the Chief Operating Officer. He works in a multifaceted role, providing management and legal support to the company and its affiliates for their ongoing operations, strategic plans and acquisitions. Prior to Slate, Steve was at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he represented clients on several high-profile transactions. Earlier in his career, Steve worked at DDG Partners and Brack Capital Real Estate, where he underwrote prospective acquisitions and development projects. Prior to Brack, Steve worked at Related Capital Company structuring and managing funds comprised of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit properties. Steve graduated from University of Michigan Business School (Ross) and earned his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York

John Bono

Chief Financial Officer

John joined Slate in 2023 and serves as Chief Financial Officer. John oversees the finance, accounting and tax functions for the entire portfolio which include reporting, cash management, forecasting, investor relations and risk management. Before joining Slate, John was the Tax Partner-In-Charge at Marcum LLP, formerly Friedman LLP, working with high-net worth clients, residential and commercial owners and developers, and senior housing facility operators. He was involved with consulting on acquisitions and dispositions, Qualified Opportunity Funds, and personal tax planning. Prior to Marcum, John was the Vice President of Taxation for Rockrose Development Corp., where he oversaw the tax and accounting functions, cash management, and tax structuring. Earlier in his career, he was in public accounting for over 10 years. John is a licensed CPA in the State of New York and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from St. John’s University.  He is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.

Brian Vetter

Chief Investment Officer

Brian joined Slate in 2020 and serves as Slate Property Group’s Chief Investment Officer. Brian oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment process, including management of the acquisition and asset management teams. Brian is also responsible for structuring business line and project-level capitalizations and contributes to the strategic development and execution of company business strategy. Prior to joining Slate, Brian was a Managing Director of Forum Absolute Capital Partners (“FACP”), a $300 million real estate private equity fund focused on development in New York City, where he served as the firm’s chief executive and managed all aspects of its projects. Before FACP, Brian was a Vice President in the Carlyle Group’s U.S. Real Estate Funds and an investment banking analyst at Bank of America. Brian graduated from Duke University, where he was named a Benjamin N. Duke Scholar, with a Bachelor of Science degree in both Economics and Political Science.

John Valladares

Managing Director, Affordable

John joined Slate in 2018 and serves as a Managing Director of Development and Affordable at Slate Property Group. John oversees Slate’s affordable, supportive and homeless housing initiatives. He also manages many of the company’s projects involving land use actions and in particular, rezoning. Prior to Slate, John was at BFC Partners and was responsible for the rezoning of the Bedford Union Armory in Crown Heights and oversaw the successful submission to NYCHA’s next Generation Ingersoll RFP. John spent 10 years in the commercial real estate banking industry with Bank of America and TD Bank in multiple roles including Underwriter, Loan Workout Officer, and Relationship Management. He began his career at Columbia University as the Assistant Director of Campus Planning during their Manhattanville expansion. John received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and a Master of Real Estate Development from Columbia University

Daniel Ridloff

Managing Director, Real Estate Credit

Daniel joined Slate in 2019 and serves as Managing Director of SCALE Lending LLC, Slate’s real estate credit investment platform. His primary responsibilities for this platform include sourcing and executing new investment opportunities, specifically focused on transitional loans in the NYC metro area. Prior to joining Slate, Daniel served as Director for a NYC based real estate developer, where he oversaw all capital markets activities including the capitalization of over $1 billion of real estate projects. Daniel earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, School of Hotel Administration.

Golan Hod

Managing Director, Development

Golan joined Slate in 2022 and serves as Managing Director of Development. In his role, Golan manages Slate’s existing ground-up and value-add development projects across the firm’s market rate and affordable housing initiatives. Prior to joining Slate, Golan served as Head of Development & Construction at Brack Capital Real Estate where he managed the design, construction and improvements of projects. Golan began his career at career at Adam America, starting as an architect then moving into construction management before finally settling into a role in development. At Adam America, he managed the development and construction of more than 1 million SF in New York City in Tribeca, Brooklyn and along the Highline. Golan holds a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic University and a Master’s Degree in Construction from New York University. He is a licensed Architect in the state of New York.

 

Ryan Goddard

Chief Operating Officer at SD Builders and Construction

Ryan joined Slate in 2019 and serves as Chief Operating Officer of SD Builders and Construction, Slate’s General Contracting subsidiary. At SD, Ryan is responsible for the day-to-day operations, management and overall growth and development of the business unit, including all estimating, procurement, accounting and project delivery. Ryan joined SD Builders with extensive experience managing multiple projects, which have included theaters, retail complexes, high-end luxury condominiums, market rate rentals, and commercial buildings. Ryan received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Construction Management from Loughborough University

Daniel Hochberg

Managing Director, MGT

Daniel joined Slate in 2013 and serves as Managing Director for MGT, Slate’s wholly owned property management arm. In his role, Daniel runs the day-to-day operations and management of MGT. Daniel has over 20 years of industry experience and previously worked as Director of Property Management at Silverstone Property Group. Prior to that Daniel was a General Manager of Middlesex Management where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of over 10,000 apartments. Daniel received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Queens College

Jonathan Keiter

Director, Capital Markets

Jonathan joined Slate in 2022 and serves as Director of Capital Markets at Slate Property Group. In this capacity, he leads the firm’s Capital Markets and Business Development. Prior to joining Slate, Jonathan was Director of Capital Formation and Business Development at Rialto Capital Management, where focused on capital raising for the firm’s flagship fund series, separate accounts and new strategies. Prior to joining Rialto, he was a consultant with Redcar Properties, where he helped the firm on fund formation. He was also an Associate Director on the real estate private equity team at LGT Capital Partners (USA) where he was responsible for investing capital globally across real estate strategies and began his career as a Senior Investment Analyst with a boutique real estate private equity firm. Jonathan received a Bachelor of Science in Management from Northeastern University.
